4.2 Configure Database Connections

This section describes how to configure and store database connections using the MySQL Shell for VS Code extension. With a configured connection, you can connect using DB Notebooks. In general, MySQL Shell console sessions are managed differently by the extension (see MySQL Shell consoles), although can open a shell session from a configured connection.

To open the Database Connection Configuration dialog:

  1. Click the MySQL Shell for VS Code icon in the activity bar.

  2. Click + on the DATABASE CONNECTIONS view toolbar.

Configured database connections are stored together as individual tiles in a browser tab and are available to edit, duplicate, or remove. Click the DB Connection Browser icon in the DATABASE CONNECTIONS view toolbar to open the browser.
